Lakme Winter Festive 2018
Gaurang

Known for his intricate fabrics that pay homage to ancient Indian textiles, Gaurang’s Collection Anupama is ode to the great South Indian actress Savitri, an icon of the Tamil, Telegu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries. Honoured with the title “Mahanati” meaning ‘pride of actresses’, Gaurang had the opportunity of designing the costumes for the film “Mahanati” in May 2018 for the tri-lingual biopic on the actress, who was known for her great sense of style and glamour. Gaurang brought in 100 artisans who worked tirelessly for over 18 months weaving amazing textiles for the film. Every rich fabric from Mangalgiri to Kota and luxurious brocades, silks, organzas, hand woven sateens and chiffons came together to create the vision of beauty during the golden era of Savitri.

With a collection that had a remarkable balance between elegance, aesthetics, comfort and above all practicality, Nupur Kanoi presented Protea. Exploring the eclecticism of Cape Town, with its nautical, bohemian and chic aspect, the designer drew inspiration from early luncheon at the lush green vineyards, to sunsets by the bay.

Inspired by the national flower the lotus, the collection was called Abjini. Julie used the lotus in multiple designs as well as colors and presented an ethereal line of ensembles.

Esha Deol and Hema Malini for Sanjukta Dutta

A graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Hyderabad, Arvind Ampula is known for  intricate hand embroidery on naturally dyed, hand woven fabrics. Arvind’s collection showed a pastel palette on layered ensembles. Sprinkling his creations with a wide variety of garden blossoms, Arvind paid particular attention to construction and cuts.

Sanjukta Dutta’s love for the Mekhela Chador has been constant season after season. Her collection Aboor is a stunning display of Assam’s beloved textiles. Using Assamese silks, saris, lehngas, tops, skirts and gowns are constructed to highlight the beauty of the fabrics. The amalgamation of traditional motifs from around India with Assamese silk was the cynosure of the show.

Gaurav Katta’s fusion line of British Royal era clothing merged with Rajasthani Royal age murals is a grand offering for his Winter/Festive 2018 collection. Reams of greyish tones of flowing fabrics were turned into floor kissing gowns, while tinselled satin, wool and sables added to the 16th century inspired collection. The embroidery was drenched in gold and silver zari on luxurious textures like lace, organza, silk, velvet and georgette. The minute embroidery with sequins, beads and pearls for the floral motifs, gave the hemlines a glittering image.
