South Asian celebrities spread Corona Cheer! Leave it to actor Melanie Chandra and comedian Rajiv Satyal to rally 50 of their celebrity friends to create the coolest Instagram video with the goal of spreading some much needed cheer during the lockdown. They call it their “anti-viral” video and the roughly five-minute video shows that all of us, no matter who we are, are feeling the effects and antsiness of the current lockdown.
Rajiv says, “As you can imagine, it took weeks to rally the troops, follow up to obtain the videos, write the script so it all flowed (especially given that we intentionally placed no bounds on what these creative people could say), and hire the editing team to make it happen. We hope the video helps people remember there’s more that unites us than divides us by speaking to the living being in each of us.”
Big shout out to the editing team Brandon Salgado and Alisam Parsaei of Orange County-based LUXCMG for the edit and animation. Another shout to Austin-based graphic designer Danielle Brancazio for the creative input to the project.
But most of all, thank you to all the creatives who took the time to contribute their famous faces: Utkarsh Ambudkar, Gayatri Bahl, Parvesh Cheena, Vinny Chhibber, Meetu Chilana, Deepak Chopra, Nina Davuluri, Manish Dayal, Nik Dodani, Pramila Jayapal, Surina Jindal, Payal Kadakia, Ro Khanna, Atul Khatri, Hari Kondabolu, Savan Kotecha, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Pooja Kumar, Sanjay Manaktala, Alingon Mitra, Deepica Mutyala, Parminder Nagra, Kunal Nayyar, Rohan Oza, Mithila Palkar, Maulik Pancholy, Sorabh Pant, Nimesh Patel, Ravi Patel, Kal Penn, Russel Peters, Ritesh Rajan, Biswa Rath, Reema Sampat, Rakesh Satyal, Reshma Saujani, Sparsh Shah, Aarti Shahani, Sheetal Sheth, Jay Shetty, Reshma Shetty, Ameet Shukla, Tiya Sircar, Karan Soni, Manpreet Toor, Omi Vaidya, Paul Varghese and Rich Verma
