In a big place like New York City, finding what you’re looking for can either be really difficult or easily right in front of you. For Nadia Deba and Naveen Gidwani, it was easy, but unexpected and from the get go, the two knew that this was special. They dated for just a few months before Naveen’s job had him scheduled to move back to his hometown of Chicago.

Nadia says, “You hear from friends that long-distance is work. It’s true, but this, this was worth it.” For two years, the couple grew their relationship by traveling and enjoying experiences together, getting introduced to family and friends and using FaceTime to fill in the gaps.

“Our most memorable trip was July 4th weekend in Portland, Maine where Naveen proposed on a boat at sunset, just the two of us, rosé and ring in hand. Tears of joy blurred my vision, but I managed not to fall overboard into the New England waters,” adds Nadia.

The two chose Brooklyn, New York as the city of their wedding because, as Nadia states, “It was where we made our first home together and in clear view of the city where we met.”

Nadia and Naveen chose the Marriott at Brooklyn Bridge as their venue and tied the knot on May 17, 2019. The wedding was infused with both his Sindhi and her Guyanese traditions including the couple wearing Indian bridal attire to their Hindu  ceremony and then donning American bridal wear for their reception. The wedding also reflected their Chicago and East Coast upbringings with a nod to their favorite neighborhoods by choosing both regional Indian and local American dishes they had enjoyed together and with family.

The couple’s first dance was serenaded by Acapella Soul, a group that Nadia actually discovered on the subway platform when she first moved to Manhattan. Later a steel drum player and DJ Amlan kept the party going as the new Mr and Mrs Gidwani danced the night away!
