Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2018 just wrapped up in India. Here are some of our favorite looks. Payal Singhal and Lakme Salon; Kunal Rawal; AM:PM; Good Earth
Payal Singhal and Lakmé Salon
Lakmé Salon and celebrated designer Payal Singhal collaborated to reinvent the rich bridal traditions for the contemporary, Indian bride. “The Show Stopping Bride” collection by Lakmé Salon showcases refreshing take on contemporary bridal makeup and hair allured to the juxtaposition of flamboyance with simplicity, grandeur with elegance. Payal’s collection called Mu’asir (meaning modern or contemporary in Persian), derived its inspiration from folk art tapestry, one of the oldest handmade techniques in the world that went through the Renaissance era, Europe and finally with Persian influences. The technique that has the art forms of Turkish Kilim, the Persian Tabriz, Medieval Mille-Fleur and the Swedish Flamskväv is an intricate pattern story. The flat weaving loose fringes, pastel and bright colours with bold patterns were shown on fusion silhouettes that are signature of Payal Singhal.
Kunal Rawal
The Kunal Rawal menswear label is the most coveted by Bollywood celebrities like Arjun Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and many fashion influencers as well as the international Who’s Who. Having designed for 15 films, 300 ad films, and a graduate from the London College of Fashion, Kunal Rawal made a great fashion splash at the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2007 Gen Next show. His experiments with sherwanis, jackets, bundi sets, kurtas, bundgalas and waistcoats – all showered with intense detailing like French knots, appliqués, pleating and metallic work, created in vibrant colours, has earned him accolades from his loyal fan following. Kunal’s Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018 collection Perspective was inspired by chaos that offers many view points. Following an unusual ‘anti’ approach towards trends but with multi-functional creations, Kunal was more liberal fashion wise and allowed the wearer to make his individual style statements with his clothes.
AM:PM
Ever since the ‘AM:PM’ label by Ankur and Priyanka Modi started in 2002, it has showcased eye-catching and innovative but practical fashion trends. Their Gypset collection for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018 was aimed at the jet-setting, free-spirited, vagabond, dresser, whose love is for the carefree life of the wandering gypsy, but in a sophisticated manner. The collection also paid homage to Julia Chaplin, the neo-hippie of global fame who coined the term ‘Gypset’. The designers who have travelled to many Indian fashion weeks, were inspired to bring their wanderings on to the ramp in textures, prints and embroidery that reflected the glamorous eras of fashion icons like Veruschka, Brigitte Bardot and Talitha Getty.
Good Earth
A decade since the launch of its clothing line Sustain, Good Earth made its debut at Lakmé Fashion Week 2018 with its first-ever couture collection – The Miniaturist. Designed by Namrata Rathi, The Miniaturist epitomizes slow fashion and is a collection of 27 ensembles that have been painstakingly hand-crafted, each piece timeless and unique. Every design from this collection emerges from the creative vision of Anita Lal, Founder & Creative Director, Good Earth and the aesthetic direction of Deepshikha Khanna, Head of Apparel line Sustain, which were then translated into the garments by native Jaipur artisans, creating works of art, reminiscent of the wedding wardrobes of almost a century ago.
