Nothing says “modern South Asian wedding” than the successful fusion of two ancient bridal conditions: henna and cake. Henna artist Sandy Patangay of NYC-bases Henna Studio is not only known for her intricate patterns on the body, but this inspired artist is also making a name by brandishing her art on a more edible canvas: cakes. With the help of The Cake Designer, Parul Patel, Sandy adorned these heart-shaped cupcakes with colorful and traditional henna patterns and tiny, edible gems.
Sandy, who has been practicing the art of henna since 2000, says it took lots of practice to achieve the precision results on the confections. A three-tiered cake takes about 4-5 hours to decorate and hence, prices begin at $200.
