Ports 1961 Inspired by her recent travels to India, Ports 1961 designer Tia Cibani should a collection of flowy, deconstructed and draped looks that brought the essence of India to her collection. The show opened with Punjabi drum band, Red Baraat Festival as models showcased sari-inspired dresses, Angharka jackets, Shalwar-style pants and Ajkhan coats in hues of saffron, jasmine, henna, ivory white and begonia pink.
Cibani, who is of Italian heritage, was born in North Africa, raised in Canada and lived in China, recently has made New York City her home. Se describes her company as a “luxury brand within a global village.” Each season Cibani takes her audience on an exotic journey and this particular collection paid homage to Mughal India and the Empress Nur Jahan.
